August is usually the quietest meeting of the year, but there was a good crowd at Portland College on the 23rd, enjoying the last days of warm weather and the pizza slices and good coffee from the cafe. Ed and Melanie set up their Models for Heroes stand again (a charity enabling ex-servicemen to use modelling as a part of their recovery from injury), and with items donated from members, collected £38.50.
Several members showed off their latest models. See the report below for more info.
Mel and Ed's stall in support of the charity Models for Heroes, including Mel's handmade railway themed bookmarks.
Charlie showed off progress on his Thingiverse design printed resin Railcar body mounted on a stretched Tomic chassis.
And (below) Charlie has made this set of four forty year old Gloor Craft Models East Broad Top Railway 3 bay aggregate hopper kits, obtained from the 009 Soc sales stand, mounted on Chivers diamond bogies.
Mel and Ed's diorama in support of Help for Heroes is nearly finished, with a Battery mine loco and BoBo diesel from Narrow Minded Railways, plus some suitable N gauge wagons that look right as mine carts.
And this is the hand dynamo for operating the upper level of Mel and Ed's diorama, very good interactive fun!
Bradley set up his test track and this is his
4Ds freelance Peckett kit in a Kato chassis with a mx of Dundas and 009 Soc wagon kits.
Roger B displayed his new work-in-progress, based on the Lincolnshire potato railways. The textured surface is made from hanging basket liner (not the coconut fibre ones).
The picture below shows a pea vining shed, still under construction, with a freelance rail vehicle inspired by some of the homemade potato railway locos, made from a dumper truck body kit on a Kato chassis, modified for radio control.
