Despite this being the holiday season, quite a few of us were present for the July meeting in the Portland College cafe, to share ideas, tips and hints about modelling the Narrow Gauge, as well as showing off our latest creations and acquisitions, as reported below.
Notably, one of our new members, Ed and his wife Melanie set up a sales stand in support of Models for Heroes, a charity enabling ex-servicemen to use modelling as a part of their recovery from injury, and collected £24. We are very pleased to support E and Melanie in this. See the report below for more info.
Ed and Melanie set up a second hand sales stand to support the Models for Heroes charity, and collected £24 from those attending. They will be back again next month and would welcome donations of any suitable books or railway model items, and for more of us to bring cash to buy them!
He also showed off his "work-in-progress", a double level small roundy roundy layout in an empty 12 bottle wine crate, called "Mine Allmine", which he hopes to control with a hand dynamo.
Bradley displayed a Fourdees Secunda on a Kato chassis, plus two 009 Society second hand sales locos and assorted Dundas wagon kits plus an 009 Society cattle wagon kit. They are seen running together on his portable test track, behind one of the 009 Society locos.
Hugh demonstrated using his latest toy, the DSPIAE Electric Reciprocating Sander, a special tool for rubbing down plastic sides, particularly the slight ribbing that 3D printing often produces on otherwise smooth parts of the model. This can be found on the internet c/o https://hobbyisthaven.com. Several of us are putting this on our Christmas list!
The model he is working on is an 009 fish wagon kit (that includes wheels, Grenwich couplings and excellent assembly instructions) from Paisley Carriage Works, who can be found on FaceBook.
Mark has branched out into 15mm scale 45mm gauge 3 footers, with this lovely (and heavy) group of IOM locos, from Accucraft. Two a RC live steamers, and the other is an electric powered loco. He hopes to establish a garden railway to run these on soon.
And this is Mark's County Donnegal railcar, also in 15mm scale.
Charlie displayed this (in progress) 009 railcar based on a Chemin de fer du Provance railcar. It was printed by another member of the group for him, and is mounted on a "stretched" tomic bogie chassis. He had fun with an electric blower heating up the roof to flatten it!
Andy has been trying out scrumbling effects for a fine wood grain finish on a couple of his 009 printed wagons. He got lots of helpful advice from the staff at a War Games shop about how to use their acrylic paints to achive this.
Ian showed us his 009 freelance Hunslet print downloaded from thingyverse on an Aru chassis. It is unfinished but using some very old lining transfers!
Finally, here is a classic HOe continental loco and Eggerbhan Western Coach combo from one of our younger attenders, on Mark's test track layout.
