We had our pre-Christmas meeting in the cafe at Portland College as usual, and everyone got a free drink or sandwich from the profits made on our second hand stall at our October show. A diversity of models were on show from several members, including those pictured below, from "Barking Mad" Andrew's minature absurdity, via a lovely freelance Baldwin tender loco by Bradley, to some recently 3D printed work from Ian. And Mel and Ed announced the grand total raised for Models For Heroes over 2025! Arising from this it was suggested that we might adopt another charity to raise money for in 2026 - railway associated or otherwise - and we would welcome ideas at the January and February 2026 meetings before we settle on one.
Since they joined us earlier in 2025, Ed and Mel have been running a stall at each of our meetings to raise monies for the Models for Heroes charity, and they have now raised a grand total of £375, about half of which was raised at our meetings. Mels empolyers, Heidelberg Fabrics, have promised to match this pound for pound!
We also saw their Christmas themed rotating micro layout based on a circular sweet container on a cheap battey turntable from Temu, and with a vertical boiler loco print from Secret Anorak on EBay mounted on the ubiquitous Kato chassis.
This is "Barking Mad" Andrews latest micro marvel - an Oxford dicast model of a Izatta bubble car on an old Kato Portram chassis, with a 12 resistor fitted by RT Models to allow it to run in a 12 volt supply. The picure is slightly blurred as it zipped round Mark's test track layout ....... a video of it is up on our Facebook group - search for "narrowgaugenow" to find it.
Mark won the award for thre best tee shirt!
Dave -brought along this Listowell and Ballybunion printed loco from Oakhill Works, complete with a bit of monorail! Can it be motorised?
This handsome scratch built freelance Baldwin outline 2-8-0 tender loco was built by Bradley, inspired by the purchase of a Bachman N gauge chassis from the 009 Society secondhand stall. and three worsley Works NWNG coaches in production on Peco L&B bogies.
Bradley also has this brace of three Worsley Works NWNG coaches in production, mounted on Peco L&B bogies.
Ian showed these three freshly home produced 3D prints from files sourced from thingiverse and cults3d to 1/72 scale for his upcoming ww2 themed layout. From L to R they are a Crochat type 14 WW1 petrol electric loco, a Zillatalbhan coach and a Simplex Tin Turtle
Andy had a problem with a misprinted tramcar body, and this was his solution! It has become a garden shed, complete with a collection of bits and peices dumped in it! Note the drooping roof ..... (Left and centre pictures)
And this is Andy's latest home printed shed, with interior structural detail. The roof is finished with 600 grade wet & dry sandpaper!
