The March meeting at the Portland College Cafe included a short ceremony to award Life Membership Certificates to three of our most longstanding members, all of whom have contributed so much over the years to the running of the group and in establishing our annual show (now known as Narrow Gauge Now) as one of the premier narrow gauge modelling exhibitions in Britain! We were also graced by the presence of Jillian Naylor and her son, in memory of our recently departed member, Robert Naylor. There was also plenty of interesting modelling on display.
The three members we honoured today, (L to R) Roger Bugg, Robert Telford and Martyn Chapman, for services to the group over the years. While admittedly the award is largely symbolic (as we don't charge a membership fee) there is one tangible benefit - free entry to our annual show Narrow Gauge Now!

Ian brought along his self print of a Crochat bogie petrol electric on a Bachman chassis (upper left) and a Pechot bogie wagon (lower left). To complete the trio of self prints he also had this Pechot-Bourdon on a Cato bogie chassis (right), though the valve gear is still to be worked on. All of these are to a scale of 1/72 for his planned WW2 layout, where items from WW1 are still in use.
Micro sheep bought from Japan by Andrew for fun! The chassis is shown below.
Steve brought along this excellently detailed 009 diorama.
Charlie has this repaint of a Bemo Rhaetian Bhan coach from the 009 Society 2nd hand stall at Narrow Gauge North. And he has kit-bashed a directors salon with two three axle bogies from a Ratio Midland Clearstory coach kit. The top cream and red panels were hand painted, and he says he will never do that again!
Bradley had his rake of brass etch coaches and scratchbuilt american outline loco on his test track. This is a very attractive set!
Robert displayed this 4-2-0 Ax class standard gauge loco by Bachman in Birmingham and Ohio Rail Road livery.
Steve led an interesting discussion on how to make dry stone walling from plaster mould strips, using this self made jig.
Ruth and David showed this lovely HOm artisan model produced in limited batches by Halling Modelle by Halling of Vienna, OBB No 999.103 ‘Erika’ (Krauss 2746/1893). The photo is by Dave showing the loco on their new module based on the only intermediate ‘halt’ on the metre gauge rack railway rising from the lakeside at St Wolfgang to the 1732m high summit station at the Schafbergspitz in the beautiful Salzkammergut Lake District of Austria. This is still a work in progress and they promise more about this layout in the future.
Dave is the proud owner of this 1/35 scale Breau 7 shunting loco kit by AK Models, based on a 1938 Danish prototype for 5ft 6in gauge. Apparently Dave says that some were captured during ww2 by the Germans!
Ed and Mel had their fundraising stand for the Models for Heros charity. They have been given a number of Airfix kits which they are passing on to the charity to give to some of their clients.
Robert's son and Robert's wife Jillian brought along this beautiful memorial plaque to Robert, who passed away recently.
