For the April meeting a good bunch of us spent a pleasant lunchtime at Portland College chatting about narrow gauge modelling and enjoying the food on offer from the cafe. Ed and Mel had their fundraising stall for Models for Heroes - see the panel just below - and we were treated to some very rare post WW2 West German clockwork narrow gauge models too. In additton Hugh brought along his work-in-progress entry for the members modelling competition*, plus there were several other interesting exhibits.
(*Which reminds me - I must get on with my own entry! For more details of the competition please click here.)
A message from Ed and Mel:
We raised £22.50 today. Total funds raised since the new fund restarted is now £130. Of that £120 is now in the M4H Just Giving & £10 has been kept as a float. To the left is a snapshot of the Just Giving page.
We would like to give credit to to Dave Hancock for the 14 models which have now been gratefully received by M4H.
Once again thank you for your continuous support & we look forward to updating members at the AGM.
To the right is Hugh's work-in-progress entry for the members competition. Housed in a box he sourced online is a simple track layout with a hand-built point leading to a track over a dutch style opening bridge - he plans to have this working in due course. It is based on a SG photo he found, likely to be in the GWR region. Is it a winner?
Charles (AKA Stuart) is the proud owner of this rare Biller-Bhan clockwork train set. It was made in Berlin just after WW2, and mainly sold to American servicemen. It is around 7mm scale and the track is roughly 16.5mm gauge, with wooden sleepers and steel rails. One of the points is also shown. A video of this is on our FaceBook group here.
Martin had these three works-in-progress to show. Above we have two hand built RTM trams to standard gauge, one is an earlier shell he is rebuilding. In the centre is a Sentinal Lillian started some years ago and now back on his table. And on the far left is a Ganz diesel mechanical baggage car from 1935 to drawings in the June 2023 009 News copied to Ho scale built in plasticard for the Kato chassis , another work in progress.
This is Chris's old Eggerbhan Stream railcar given new life with a new chassis, and the tramway skirt cut away to reveal the valve gear.
This is a companion 6 wheeled coach carefully shut and cut from a longer coach. (Unfortunately I did not get the details of which coach.)
And lastly here are the componets of a self assemble DC track controller, souced fromthe internet. (Again, I did not get who bought this along.)
