A pre-yuletide gang met in the Portland College Cafe on Saturday 21st of December for the last meeting of 2024. Some of the modelling we enjoyed is shown below. We also discussed some of the issues the success of our last show (Narrow Gauge Now 2024) have brought us, including how we might more safely manage the fairly large amount of cash we are now generating, and the increasing demand from our visitors to the show to pay by card. After some discussion it was agreed that a few volunteers would form a "shadow committee" to draft a constitution, and Roger advised on his findings of a survey of other 009 regional groups about how they manage their monies, which will be followed up by the shadow committee. If all goes well we would hope to have an Inaugural Meeting as part of the April 2025 meeting to adopt the constitution and formally elect a committee. We all agreed that the constitution should be a straightforward as possible and should not make the work of organising Narrow Gauge Now 2025 more difficult!
Charlie displayed his latest work in progress, a freelance centre-articulated Sentinel Railcar, made from several Ratio Midlands coach kits with Roxy Mouldings IoM coach bogies and a Halling 9mm chassis in the centre compartment.
Andy brought along this partially assembled Sandy Rivers No2 loco kit from Toma Model Works, with its own RTR Chassis. With it is his own print (from his own drawings) of the Pentewan Railway coach .
David had this interesting american 2nd Class Vestibule coach kit in wood, by La Belle, which he is working on to complement his standard guage 00 military train collection.
Andrew set up his micro layout Calf of Node, based on an imaginary island railway. (This layout appeared in our Narrow Gauge Now 2024 show.) The loco is a Matt Ditch print on a Kato tram chassis. Also shown is a view of the very simple controls embedded into the back of the layout, including a battery, wire in tube point control and point polarity micro switches.
Greg showed us his home printed copy of this very interesting online magazine, produced 4 times a year by Ian Holmes, which is free to anyone who requests to be on his mailing list. Email him on MMRDeditor@gmail.com.
(And no, I cannot get this picture to rotate round!)
